Anyone ever spend a week there in the summer?

Wife and rising 2nd grader will be along for the ride.

    Thanks ahead of time.

Oh, I highly recommend the following:

Missiles and More Museum Home - Missiles and More Museum

It's on Topsail Island, and you'll see some of the missiles that were tested after WW2, using lessons we learned from the Germans and their V1 Buzz Bomb program. The early days of Navy guided missiles were tested from Topsail. In particular, the Bumblebee missile program did lots of shots from there, and one is on display.

I think your 2nd grader will be intrigued.

I'm pretty sure that Moddy is a Topsail guy. Send him a PM maybe?

Here is one of the inspirations for the engineers working on the Bumblebee missile program:

Off the top of my head
Sea Turtle Hospital - rehab for sea turtles that swallowed wayward helium balloons.

For a day off the island go to Wilmington
    Battleship North Carolina

Fort Fisher- pay homage to the confederate soldiers
Aquarium - imagine it would be huge for a 2 yr old

Fast transition once you head back over bridge. It's gets red real fast.

    Great stuff...

How busy does it get? The OBX is a nightmare in the summer. I have heard it is less stressful here. Is that correct?

Does that duplex come with cucumber-scented candles?

  9. Ever stayed below OBX? Rodanthe? Avon?
Lots of houses, but not Nags Head.

Totally agree with this. When my dad was stationed at Camp Lejeune years ago I practically lived there.

It took huge hits from Bertha and Fran in '96 but still a great place. The Jolly Roger is still there.

    Thanks everyone...

Any places to eat that anyone could recommend?

What about sections of the beach that might get too crowded with people? Is that a problem there? Are there parts of the island to avoid because of traffic?

    There is NO traffic.
I stay in North Topsail and I've never seen the beach crowded. It is all houses, not hotels spilling 200 families onto the same spot.
Restaurant choices are few, we go out only once and cook in the rest of the time.
