Have at it. I've only seen 30 of the top 50, including Mean Girls! ;D

Entertainment Weekly recently compiled a list of the top 50 high school movies of all time. In what EW called a list of “beloved flicks about the traumatic teen years,” The Breakfast Club unexpectedly toppled fan favorite Fast Times at Ridgemont High for the top spot.

We see it as we want to see it — in the simplest terms, the most convenient definition: The Breakfast Club is the best high school movie of all time. It may lack the scope of its peers — the drinking, the driving, the listless loitering in parking lots — as well as any scenes that actually take place during school. But if hell is other people — and high school is hell — then John Hughes is the genre's Sartre, and this is his No Exit.

Breakfast Club star Molly Ringwald managed to make the top 50 list an astounding three times.

    50. Splendor in the Grass 1961
    49. Sixteen Candles 1984
    48. Just One of the Guys 1985
    47. Napoleon Dynamite 2004
    46. Flirting 1992

    38. Bye Bye Birdie 1963
    37. Friday Night Lights 2004
    36. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 2005
    35. Brick 2006
    34. Get Real 1999
    33. Hoop Dreams 1994
    32. Scream 1996

No Porky's? No Valley Girl? I cry foul. The top two are solid, tho. And nice to see Lucas make it. The best movie John Hughes never made.

I've only seen 26 of them, but much love for getting Donnie Darko up high. Great call.

Is Back to the Future really a "high school movie?" I took that to mean something that at least tangentially involves school. I guess flashing back to a dance makes it one...

Breakfast Club ahead of American Graffiti?
Breakfast Club would rank behind about 35 movies on this list.
    At least.
Risky Business ... Gregory's Girl ... Hoop Dreams ... Fame.
    These movies dwarf Breakfast Club.

I love Breakfast Club, but Fast Times should be the runaway No. 1...

Absolutely, Back to the Future is a HS movie...

Breakfast Club is not only in its right place here, it's among the best movies I've ever seen, period, for accomplishing what it set out to do.

Fast Times was it for me before Breakfast Club came out. I think it's a perfect 1-2.

36 for me, and fine with breakfast club -- but sixteen candles needs to be higher

(and where's one crazy summer? or better off dead?)

I'm with shotty on this one, too. Fast Times and Breakfast Club have to be 1-2 ... and doesn't really matter on the order ...

The movies which I think got sold a little short here:

    Carrie.

    Ferris Bueller.

    Risky Business.

    Sixteen Candles.

And one which I was pleasantly surprised to even see on the list, but it should really be even higher ... The Virgin Suicides.

hoops dead on about One Crazy Summer, too.

Fast Times captured high school far, far better than Breakfast Club. It's not even close.

And I graduated from high school the year Breakfast Club came out.
