I echo the call on Freedom. As far as pop music goes GM is a true craftsman.

I also agree with the comment about finding good music, it seemed so much easier before.

Part of it is the sheer amount of information out there but part of it is also evolution of my lifestyle. Back in the Napster days I would download music for 8 or 9 hours at a time. Now with more work and family responsibility prioritizing significant time to look for new music is not something I do.

I am pretty thankful for my Sirius radio or I would not hear much new music at all.

If it makes you feel better, I'm not sure you had any.

Your song choices for this thread have been wonderful. Keep up the good work.

OK, I'll take a shot at this, too.

    In no particular order:

Marc Cohn -- Walking In Memphis
    Barenaked Ladies -- If I Had $1,000,000
Gin Blossoms -- Found Out About You
Better Than Ezra -- In The Blood
    Mr. Jones -- Counting Crows
Roll To Me -- Del Amitri
    Gin Blossoms -- Hey Jealousy
Hootie & The Blowfish -- Let Her Cry
The Offspring -- Come Out and Play
The Offspring -- Pretty Fly For A White Guy

    Honorable Mention:
Sister Hazel -- All For You

This list is not complete without "It Was A Good Day" by Ice Cube. One of the greatest rap songs ever.

    Purely favorites:
    --Smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana
    --Betterman, Pearl Jam
    --Come Out and Play, Offspring
--When I Come Around, Green Day
    --Seether, Veruca Salt
    --You Oughta Know, Alanis
    --Jell, Collective Soul.
--Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Smashing Pumpkins
    --I Alone, Live
    --No Rain, Blind Melon

  8. Some good songs here. I was glad to see the reference to Cake, but their best song, by far, is "Rock 'n' Roll Lifestyle."

    I'll also take...
Worlds Apart -- Jars of Clay (I could do about a top 200 of just JOC)
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) -- Green Day
    Machinehead -- Bush
    I'll Be -- Edwin McCain
    Hang -- Matchbox 20
    Hurt -- Nine Inch Nails
    Broken Record -- The Refreshments
Forty Six & 2 -- Tool (really, most of Tool's 90s stuff could make this list)
    Everybody Hurts -- R.E.M.

The entire "Cracked Rear View" album by Hootie is pretty good, but I can't pick just one song of there for this list.
"Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down apparently missed the 90s by two months. That would be in my top 3.

OK, after much consternation and gnashing of teeth, here's my list (and I threw in some country, because no one else did):

    1. Smells Like Teen Spirit --- Nirvana (yes, I'm sick of it like everyone else, but you can't deny that it spawned a musical revolution)
    2. Nothin' But a G Thing --- Dr. Dre
    3. Enter Sandman --- Metallica
    4. Corpus Christi Bay --- Robert Earl Keen
    5. Got Me Wrong --- Alice in Chains
    6. November Rain --- Guns N' Roses
    7. Big Poppa --- Notorious B.I.G.
    8. Black Hole Sun --- Soundgarden
    9. It Only Hurts When I Cry --- Dwight Yoakam
    10. Criminal --- Fiona Apple

If it makes you feel better, that song had been around a few years on an independent label CD before it was remastered after 3DD signed with Universal. So, it's technically a 90s song, even though "The Better Life" didn't drop until February 2000.

My brother graduated from high school with Brad Arnold is the only reason I know this. I don't really care for 3DD, though I'll admit "Kryptonite is a catchy song.

I just don't think their lyrics or style are remotely inventive. "When I'm Gone" rhymes the same two words in back-to-back lines in the chorus, for God's sake.
