Your Top 10 Songs of the 90s.

Was thinking about this the other day and was a bit surprised at how diverse the options were and how difficult it might be to come up with a list of 10. Figure I'd put it on here, and then see what others posted. My guess is my list of 10 will change after reading what others post.

No Nirvana on my list, which I expect will be a minority opinion. Also, none from superstar groups, U2 or REM--their magic moments were in the 80s in my view--and no rap, either, although "Bust a Move" would have made it if it had arrived a year later. Couldn't fit in Liz Phair despite trying, and left off a true classic in my view in "Lightning Crashes". Also, no representation from my best album of the 90s in The Jayhawks, 'Tomorrow the Green Grass'.

    1. "Santa Monica" - Everclear
    2. "Omaha" - Counting Crows
    3. "Crash" - Primitives
    4. "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter in a Small Town", Pearl Jam
    5. "The Ugly Truth", Matthew Sweet
    6. "You Oughta Know", Alanis Morrisette
    7. "I've Been Waiting", Matthew Sweet
    8. "Big Me", Foo Fighters
    9. "Maybe Angels", Sheryl Crow
    10. "Big Empty", Stone Temple Pilots

Here are some people's lists and some songs brought up in discussion: http://www.sportsjournalists.com/forum/threads/52170/

I still haven't figured out mine, but I'm working on it.

Shit, Matthew Sweet twice and neither one is "Girlfriend?" That has what might be the greatest opening guitar riff ever for a pop song ...

Dammit, I knew we talked about that VH1 list, but I didn't recall the discussion about people's top 10. Looks like there weren't a whole of entries in that regard, so maybe this will help extract some more responses.

Never can hurt to start a music thread anyway...

Sorry, steak, that's no doubt a quality song, but that would be my 3rd favorite Matthew Sweet tune.

I completely agree. I always find something I've been missing out on.

"Buddy Holly" by Weezer is the best video I've seen (great song, too), but "Santa Monica" is my choice too. Most played song on my iPod.

Terrific list. I'm going to waste about an hour watching all these videos. Thanks. :)
