Well, PC, different strokes for different folks. We obviously hang in VERY different circles.

Great description of Carmel, Buck. Mrs. OOP and I drove down the California coast a few years back and that was one of our stops. Not a bad time, but not that great, either.

Savannah was cool, but it didn't blow me away.

Charleston seems a bit high, but there is a lot to do there.

If Carmel counts, why not Lahaina?

Carmel and Santa Fe are pretty much the same place, one is on the coast, one is in the mountains. Artsy, a lot of natural beauty, good restaurants, expensive lodging.
Loved visiting Chicago, New York and Boston. Grew up in the SF area and I think being on the bay and having the bridges is what makes that city click. It's not that much better than Seattle being on the sound and having the Olympic mountains and Mount Ranier to look at.

My only problem with Chicago is that is takes half a day in traffic to get there or to leave.

I have never set foot in one. I had no idea how rare they were (or were not).

That exit is pretty much the last bit of DC traffic. Mind you it is about 50 miles south of the Beltway.

Wouldn't argue this. Loved NYC when I was there for the first time in July, would love to go back to SF.

    My bad.

However, your correction raises an interesting point:
The very existence of the Hootie monument has tainted an entire state.
