Interesting thoughts, especially in a business that wants people to spend money with them, but won't turn around and spend money. The two Philly papers were spending $200k combined in promotions?
And, even worse, in a business that considers promoting itself in bad taste. Most recent personal example, my boss sends out a note saying that we should better promote ourselves. Work the morning teevee circuit, do the local cable shows and radio gabfests.
My first thought and most everyone else's was "oh crap, that's not what we do. The paper promotes itself."
Yet we wonder why circualtion drops are the norm for most places.
