An inmate in a Montreal prison is getting out of jail early because of his morbid obesity.

Michel Lapointe, 37, was granted a six-month reduction of his sentence to compensate for what the parole board described as the "inconveniences" he endured because of his heavy weight.

Lapointe was released from prison Tuesday night, the Quebec parole board said.

The Quebec man, known as "Big Mike," weighs more than 400 pounds.

He was sentenced to 25 months in jail for drug trafficking charges, a sentence he was serving at the Bordeaux Jail in Montreal.

You can eat your way out of prison? Who knew?

Prison meals must be getting better.
