The 8 gig goes from $599 to $399.

And they've just launched a new iPod which has all the usual bells and a few more whistles, but get this:

Another feature of the iPod software will be the ability to alert a user entering a Starbucks coffee shop to the music being played there. If a person likes the song and wants to buy it on iTunes, tapping an icon on the screen will download the song.

God, ain't corporate America a wonderful thing?

2 years from now, this thing will be in the $9.99 basket at your local Radio Shack.

Yeah, I heard this when the staff all found out at AT&T while I was fuming. None of them knew till they rang someone up. Then they all ran over and oohed and aahed instead of TRYING TO FIX MY GODDAMN PHONE.

    Sorry.

    Congrats, suckers longtime AT&T customers.

The lady friend's response to today's releases: "Don't they just make mp3 players anymore?"

I am a youngin', but I now own one (1) discontinued/obsolete iPod mini and one (1) that is now deemed "Classic," even though it's not the new model.

Love the iPod, but can't they just sit still for a year or two?

I heard their stock took a dive today, was it because of the iPhone price drop?

The iPod touch's capacity is too small, the Nano is still way too small (yo, Jobs: 20gig nano? Please?) and the new 160gig model ... let's just say I don't feel the need to rip every second of Band Of Brothers (plus all the bonus materials) onto an iPod for later viewing.

Guess I'll stick with my black 30gig iPod for a while.

Did the kid who found a way to hack into the Iphone have anything to do with the price drop?

My only real issue with the iPod is that there isn't really an on/off button... It's usually only an issue when I'm traveling, but that's when you need it the most...

I'm sure the iPhone is great, but I've never once looked at my phone and wished I could store music on it... The Internet is a whole different story though...

Lot of POed first-day iPhone buyers.
    Wahhh!
You all knew the price was going to come down someday, that's technology.
If I didn't own a Treo with EVDO, the iPod Touch would be something I would look at.
I bought my daughter an iPod Shuffle for her birthday and am amazed by how good the sound quality is for such a small device.
