I'm new to this forum stuff, so I wasn't sure if I should start a new topic or put this in the MLB thread. If I'm in the wrong, please move it there....

Dr. Jobe told Nolan Ryan he needed that specialized surgery in 1987. Ryan rejected that and did his own rehab. He pitched another six years at an advanced age.

This begs this question - is surgery embraced too quickly?

Perhaps but you also have to account for the fact that the surgery is much more
advanced now as well as the diagnostic techniques resulting in more
    informed decisions.

I'm amazed Ryan has never been connected to steroids.

Ryan is an outlier in a lot of ways, as was Randy Johnson. Trying to compare other guys to them is kind of pointless.

    Was waiting for that.

Am never using that phrase again.

Well, Randy Johnson did play college baseball with a certain slugger...

Tommy John. Who had Tommy John surgery.

Who didn't see that one coming?

"Hey Tommy. Here's a surgery with your name all over it, pal!"
