When did the team with the best record ever have home-field advantage in the World Series?

I know it dates back to the '20s, but the 2-3-2 format should go.

Going to 2-2-1-1-1 would add two travels (after Games 2, 4, 5 & 6 instead of just after Games 2 & 5). The season's too damn long already.

That's a legitimate concern, but there are ways to trim the regular season if they wanted to. Playing one twin-bill doubleheader a month (on, say, the second Saturday of the month) would cut a week off the season.

Fans don't like doubleheaders, players don't like them, managers don't like them, TV doesn't like them, and ticket-selling front offices don't like them. And you want six a year.

Could you imagine sitting through two Red Sox games in the same day? Holy crap, that would take longer than the Ironman Triathlon, and probably be more painful.

    2-3-2 is fine.

Your designated PH would need to be your best hitter.

Tony La Russa is intrigued by this idea, and wants to un-retire to demonstrate how brilliant he is at using So Taguchi in high leverage situations.

If they put in the re-entry rule (at least one version of it) a manager could start an inning with a right-hander on the mound, yank him for a lefty if he needed the platoon advantage, come back with the righty, then finish the inning with the lefty again.

Or, you could bring in your relief ace in the 7th to face the 2-3-4 hitters, go back to your starter (or another bullpen guy) for the 8th, then come back with the ace in the 9th when the big boys came up again.

Theoretically, one pitcher could qualify for the win, a hold and a save all in the same game.
