    I spent endless hours practicing on the ancient Tulane Stadium rug after the structure had been dismantled -- still have a souvenir brick from the south facade. The field was fenced right behind the goalpost, so I'd have to scramble through the construction debris to get my ball. It paid off, as I eventually made an extra point in the spring game as a no-talent walk-on. I never made one from 63, but converted from 51 to win the intramural FG competition senior year. You could look it up.

    i did look it up and it said the ball was spotted a quarter inch inside the 41-yard line ... hence, it only was a 50 yarder.

    In Dempsey's case, a half-foot equaled another half yard.

    Tulane Stadium still had a grass (or mud) field for Dempsey's kick, right? I know it did for Super Bowl IV.
