Sigh. Not again. Posts on this thread should be about TOLEDO. That is all.

A couple months ago, my shop bought new computers for the entire newsroom. Our graphic designer was set up with a new computer, new software, the whole nine yards. A month later, he was laid off and the position isn't going to be filled. So that spiffy new computer and illustrating software sits on an empty desk collecting dust.

Toledo's kind of a strange paper. When the U. of Toledo beat Michigan earlier this fall, easily the biggest win in school history, it only got an above-the-mast refer, and not a special one at that. Most of the front above the fold was set aside as a front-page editorial endorsing Obama, asking him to be the next FDR. That's the Block family for you....

And take it from personal experience...they treat their newspaper carriers like garbage.

Anyone got news on this one?

  7. 15.5?

How do you lay off half a position?

    I'm sure that means a part-timer.

    Full-time = 1 position
    Part-time = .5 positions

  9. Ah. I'll shut up.

  10. Anyone know who was affected by this?

Four sports staffers got laid off, a reporter, copy editor and two agate clerks.
