No way Toronto ever bids for another Olympics.

The 1960 Winter Olympics didn't happen?

Aw, forgot about that one. So that would be 1932-1960, still 28 years.

The Olympics took a little time off in that period for some reason.

Maybe not in the next few cycles, but the centre of the universe will definitely bid in the future. Beyond that, the only other Canadian city I could see getting it would be going back to Montreal for the winter games.

Which two weeks are considered summer in Toronto?

Toronto would make a great host. It's not uncommon to have some stretches in July/August when the temperature gets over 90F. Big, cosmopolitan city. And you get all the advantages of being in the US (time zone for live TV) without the political baggage.

The spector of all the debt Montreal racked up in 1976 is probably the biggest drawback, but it's been a generation since then. Pencil Toronto in for 2028.

The Pan Am Games in 2015 will go a long way in determining whether Toronto can host an event like the Olympics. And the political climate in this city will have to change dramatically (no more Bread Not Circuses types running around City Hall) before there is an serious attempt at another Olympic bid.

    Huggy,

In every democratic nation, there is always an element of public dissent. It was there in Atlanta and Salt Lake City and even Vancouver for a while. Hell, it was there in Nagano, Athens, Torino and London. I get that. You can't please everyone and there is a segment of the population that always feels like spending public money on sports and stadiums isn't a great idea.

The best you can hope for is to convince the powers that be that the Games will be safe, well-run, profitable and most of the people will eventually get behind the endeavor.

It's so far north they don't get any summer at all. The igloos don't even melt.
