And the Bengals-Niners game was tied at 3 at halftime.

Great games need not be great offensive explosions.

OK, I will only pick five from the 14 I saw in person. This leaves out last year's, which obviously should be on anyone's list, and Super Bowl III (Ditto). And it is only on their merits as games. The Pats actually winning their first Super Bowl was a professional mindblower of the never-thought-I'd-live-to-see-that variety.

True, but the first half of Rams-Titans was a snoozefest. The Rams couldn't execute at all in the red zone, and the Titans couldn't execute period.

Weird how there were maybe three or four great games out of the first 30, and then we've had five of the last 12 be among the 10 greatest ever (along with a couple other good games -- SBs XXX, XXXI and XXXIX). Coincidence? Parity? Salary cap?

True, but most Super Bowls have stretches like that. Rams-Titans with probably the most exciting ending ever and Pats-Rams was back-and-forth throughout the second half, with another great ending.

Forgot about Broncos-Packers and Patriots-Panthers, two that are also up there on my list.

I was engrossed, and I had to turn that section around in a solo flight on the desk. Good freaking grief that was a mess ... worse, I was the only Panthers fan in the department and there were no Pats fans.

    Still, tops in my book.

    1. XXXVIII
    2. III
    3. XLII
    4. XXXIV
    5. XXV
    6. XXXVI
    7. VII
    8. XIII
    9. XXIII
    10. XX (Not because of suspense ... Pats sucked that out by beating the only team and only offense that gave the "46" a challenge, but because it was nice to finally see Walter Payton get his ring.)

I think parity, which has been ramped up by the salary cap, has a lot to do with it. Teams are now more evenly matched than ever.
