    Every year between Christmas and New Year's Day, Gene Collier does a column in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette where he awards "The Trite Trophy" to the most over-used and most annoying phrase of the year. It is always excellently done and I make it a point tofind it and read it.

    Most - - if not all - - of the phrases used in this thread have found their way into his columns over the years. In fact the phrase, "It is what it is," won the Trite Trophy two years in a row...
