Rainelle police chief pleads no contest to battery
BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - Rainelle Police Chief Danny Ray Price has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an incident at a bar.
Price, 29, entered the plea Tuesday before Raleigh County Magistrate Mary Jennings. Charges of assault and brandishing a weapon were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Rainelle Mayor Eugene McKenzie said earlier this month that the charges involved a fight with a friend.
Jennings ordered Price to pay about $400 for the medical expenses of the victim, Mabscott police Capt. Jason Kerr. Kerr was off duty at the time of the July 15 incident at a Beckley bar, police have said.
Price was sworn in as Rainelleás police chief on Feb. 1.
Price previously was a Rainelle police officer for about eight months but was dismissed following a 2005 arrest on charges of domestic battery and brandishing a weapon. The charges were later dropped when the alleged victim recanted her statements.
He also was charged last summer with impersonating an officer and providing false information to a Mabscott police officer during a July 6 traffic stop. Those charges were dismissed in August in exchange for a guilty plea to obstructing a police officer. Price was fined $500 and did not spend any time in jail.
