Apologies if this is a D_B, but a grade school in Texas banned a third-grade girl from lunch and recess for a week for the grand crime of ... having a Jolly Rancher with her lunch.

Original story, with the school claiming they are just following Texas law: http://www.khou.com/news/Candy-Gets-Third-Grader-A-Weeks-Detention-93033319.html

Update, with Texas Ag Department telling the school to get a life: http://www.khou.com/news/State-responds-to-Jolly-Rancher-incident-93171189.html

When we had to make weight, my wrestling coach used to give us Jolly Ranchers and tell us to spit out the juice.
