We're having one this year. Three years ago it was at a rented out restaurant hall with catered food and alcohol.

This year it is in the afternoon in the newsroom.

Apparently there will be door prizes. I'm sure it will be the fake money they give us toward buying shit at our company store.

We'll get our standard Thanksgiving "holiday" checks on Wednesday ... $600 for full-timers who've been on board more than 5 years, laddered down from that.

The idea is to help folks kick-start their holiday shopping.

We have, in years past, also gotten profit-sharing checks. I'll have to wait a couple of days to fill in the details, but it says something about our shop that there will be some kind of check for every employee even though this has not, to say the least, been much of a year on the profit side.

Anyone's company having a "Deal Or No Deal" themed party?

Two weeks' salary, again, despite the economic downturn. Supposedly you can also take one week of salary and an extra week of vacation.

When I was hired I was told my salary was based on 54 weeks of pay. I'm always amazed each year when the letter comes in November that once again our company will offer a holiday bonus. I'd pretty much written it off for this year.

I'm hearing that the holiday party will be cut this year. Usually, we also get a coupon book. We might get the privilege of buying that coupon book for a discount this year. In other words, we'll probably get nothing.

Not expecting anything. Happy to have the key card work.

Took current job (broadcasting) at a very nice pay bump from my last shop. Feel blessed to be here, at this rate. I doubt I'd get this much if the job were open now.

Of course, if anything is dropped into a paycheck, I won't complain.

Yet I also won't complain if we get nothing extra. Been to too many stations that have done things on the cheap.

My wife's media company canceled their Christmas party -- the best holiday bash I'd ever seen, in or out of a workplace. Tons of free-flowing good food and booze (last year Maker's Mark got on board as some kind of sponsor, pouring drinks in souvenir tumblers dipped in the red wax they use on the bottles), and the entire lobby was set up in a casino-night theme. You'd gamble with free money (fake bills named after the CEO), then at the end of the night "cash" in and put your name in a prize box. The box didn't really matter, all of the 200 or so employees got prizes and about the worst prizes were $50 restaurant gift certificates. Many people got $500 jewelry store gift cards, free flights, whatever else the advertising folks stashed away from give-and-take with clients during the year.

Sigh. Really gonna miss that shindig, if you can't tell.

I got a membership to the Jelly of the Month Club.

Seriously, I've never gotten a holiday bonus, and our raises were cut by one percent.

We do. But we have to pay to attend. Needless to say, I'm not.
