In somewhat related news, rumors flying Nessler is leaving ESPN for CBS to be Uncle Verne's eventual replacement on SEC games.

 

Will any of this make my cable cheaper?

 

That's a weird guy to target for professional jealousy. He's so nondescript and vanilla, with no schtick and no catchphrases (that I can name, anyway). He's the anchor equivalent of hating on Joe Posnanski.

 

Here's why I like Michaels.

I will never turn off a game because of who the announcer is.

However, I will watch every Ravens-Steelers 13-10 slopfest if Al and Chris are calling it. I won't watch that same game if it's Nantz-Simms.

That's Al's value.

 

Skip Payless to Fox. Rats on a stinking ship

 

I always flip over to the end of Sunday Night Football games - even if I don't care who is playing - just to see if Al makes a none-too-subtle gambling reference.

 

I may be the last person in this state who likes Uncle Verne, but Nessler is a huge get. Good for CBS.

 

Only suckers pay sticker price for cable.

 

I'm hoping this is Verne's choice. As has been said many times, many ways here, I'd listen to Verne and Doc read from the dictionary.

I like Verne as well because he's a helluva good guy and, at his age, he strives to be as good as his stage in life allows but he has a lot of fun along the way.

I think he's perfect for SEC Saturday. I just don't want to see those yahoos - Finebaum or that bearded ESPN guy who looks and acts like that author from House of Cards seasons 3 and 4 (forgot his name) - with more of a TV platform.
