"Time and other U.S. news weeklies have been fighting to retain readers as many of them spend more time getting their news on the Web."

People are dumb. Why do people spend time getting their news on the web? IT'S FREE!!!!!!!

    The end.

Exactly! But we keep giving it all away.

Kids coming out of high school and college today actually feel they are entitled to free print media. Go to their message boards and you'll see that. They are aghast at things like Times Select - or even registering for a site.

Thank you. For the millionth time, media bigwigs, you can't have it both ways. If you want to make your Web sites all the rage and load it with everything from the print edition plus your other bells and whistles (BLOGS!), you can't scratch your head like a third-grader and wonder why your print product circulation is dropping like a stone. And then decide that changing some fonts, the cover design and story word-counts is going to magically reverse that.
