You still haven't heard from the mechanic?

Why would you turn in the plates for a month or two?

So I don't have to pay insurance while I can't drive.

Didn't realize you had to turn in the plates to suspend the insurance. I guess that makes sense, though.

I'm curious. How old are you, SP?

According to this, suspending car insurance for a little while has its own unintended consequences.

If you are only gone for four months, suspending your registration (if your state allows it) and canceling your car insurance may be more trouble than it's worth and could cause your rates to rise when your return due to the lapse in coverage that auto insurers will see when you return and apply for a new car insurance policy.

OK, then I guess if it comes to that, my only option is to suck it up and make the car payment and insurance payments while it sits in the parking lot undriveable.

Let's just say I'm old enough that I should know better than to have put myself in this position.

Just out of curiosity, how much do you think this is going to cost that you can't afford to have it repaired? There are a lot of things that could be wrong that can cost less than $200 to fix.

Something electrical, a fuel pump, an alternator, I have no idea what it is. I had the battery replaced a month ago but that doesn't mean anything.
    I hope you're right.
