I know it was made for TV, but no love for Junction Boys either? Come. On.

Yes, because to them all films made in the U.S. are "foreign" films.

Not a vintage year, by any means. My favorite best-picture nom of that year was Good Night, And Good Luck, with full knowledge it didn't have snowball's chance in hell of winning . . . and neither did Capote, which I preferred over the others.

Not when lots of them are actually "made" in Canada with Canadian crews.

They don't call us "Hollywood North" for nothin'

Nice tax breaks and depending on the exchange rate, a lot of bank for the production buck.

Contrarian view here. On DirecTV in the last few years, I've seen:

    In the Mood for Love
    The Death of Mr. Lazarescu
    4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days
    Russian Ark
    The New World
    Le fils
    Cache'
    A History of Violence
    Mulholland Drive
    Three Times
    Rois et reine
    Elephant
    Talk to Her
    Pan's Labyrinth
    L'Enfant
    My Winnipeg
    Saraband
    Spirited Away
    I'm Not There
    Gerry
    Dogville
    The Royal Tenenbaums

By my count, that's 22 films where the physical effort expended was pouring a glass of wine and sitting down on my couch. This is not difficult, folks.

  8. Spirited Away is probably my favorite film of the decade. Love love love it. [Heart] Miyazaki.

Well of course, because the Pretentious Douchebags Who Smoke Cigarettes Ironically that chose this list also drink wine while watching these movies.

It wasn't a comment about the quality (though, yeah, I liked enough of them). Multiple posters had complained, "How could I possibly be expected to have seen these films?" My answer was, "Umm, turn on your TV?"

The wine is essential. After a couple of glasses, I can believe I don't need the subtitles anymore.
