Two stumpers today. Good on me.

The second-youngest MLB shortstop since expansion is non other than Tony La Russa, who was 18 years, 7 months and 6 days old when he debuted with the Kansas City A's on May 10, 1963. He stayed in the majors for a while that season, was sent down and then didn't return until 1968, by which time the franchise had moved to Oakland. His lifetime batting average was .199.

(No love for Mike De La Hoz or Jack Heideman, two Indians of the future from back in the day?)

Ted Lindsay of the Detroit Red Wings is credited with being the first to skate around the arena. On April 23, 1950, the Wings won the cup by defeating the Rangers 4-3 on a goal by Pete Babando at 28:31 of OT. Lindsay was so excited he hoisted the cup over his head and skated around old Olympia Stadium.

    See ya'll next week.

My guess is Bert Campaneris had something to do with La Russa's not sticking around long.

    Good questions as always.
