This Story Is Just ... Sad

    Maybe I jumped the gun but why even raise that subject when discussing a freshman? I was washing dishes and busing tables, had very little to do with ultimately becoming a lawyer, except for developing work habits and understanding team work.

    I guess I sensed that you were asking that in the context of whether he was a viable worker given his background.

    As for him in his dorm; well there is a delicate balance for someone from a background so far from the mainstream. If he just immersed himself in "regular" social circles, he could very quickly lose any sense of identity and plunge into despair.

    I believe keeping his african american circle gave him strength and a sanctuary from which to overcome the despair he was feeling.
