That's different from the regular college experience?

In terms of a campus organization...yeah.
I was at the college paper, college radio station, and college TV station and never got that much.
Well, OK...I did, but I just had mad game and used my power of authority to seduce freshmen girls looking to join a campus organization...but that's besides the point.

The regular college experience has gone from keggers and panty raids to massive binge drinking and date rape. It's gotten so bad that there is now a cottage industry in the legal profession where lawyers in college towns specialize in representing frats who get sued for date rapes and alcohol poisoning taking place in their houses, or representing the victims. If the band geeks are engaging in this much debauchery, the rest of the campus must be a huge zoo.
Don't give me the "grumpy old man" crap. Kids are dying from binge drinking and girls are getting gang-raped because they're too drunk to know what the hell's going on. That's not "the regular college experience," or just kids being kids.

No I think hondo's right, especially on the sex part. Porn has really changed the way young men look at women. Some of the stuff that happens -- and I'm talking about with willing women -- is eight levels beyond anything I even heard about during school. And then you have roofies, GHB and all that, which (at least to my knowledge) didn't exist back then.

I don't think it is porn as much as it is people not giving much of a fuck about each other anymore. Courtesy and respect for others has gone out the window.

I'm pretty sure the binge drinking, date rape and all the other things you guys are talking about occurring in college isn't just a recent phenomena.

The media's ability and desire to seek out and report on those instances, however...

Who cares how recent? You falling back on the "everybody does it" excuse?
The last thing these kids need is more rationalization for their behavior.

Yeah, keep dismissing these incidents. We'll just continue to let college and high school kids do whatever the fuck they want.

I was in college 25 years ago, played football and was in a fraternity.

The things we did were occasionally wild. The things the band fraternity and sorority did were outtakes from Caligula deemed too raunchy to air.

But it wasn't just sex and booze. Hardcore hazing and they even had at least one fake student.

Lived in a dorm. Had a meal plan. Played and practiced in the band but didn't go to class because he wasn't enrolled. It was crazy.

But he played a mean trombone.

It wasn't like the "one time at band camp" joke from American Pie came out of nowhere. It was always the running joke that the "band geeks" got laid more often and did much crazier shit than any of the fraternities, sororities, jocks, whatever.
