If Republicans maintain control of the house and the senate in November, what will Democrats blame it on?

    a) Uneducated voters
    b) Republican corruption and conspiracy
    c) Democrats need to have / communicate a better plan
    d) "We need to catch the Republicans committing more crimes"
    e) The liberal fringe is damaging the image of moderate democrats
    f) Rush Limbaugh
    g) No blame, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
    h) Other

I can see answers to a (typical elitist response), b and d) the Fenian model and f. No answers such as C and E would indicate a typical denial of what's wrong with Democrats.

    Hypothetically speaking...

IF the Democrats fail to win control of both the House and the Senate, it is a guarantee that party stalwarts will use every excuse in the book to try and explain their lack of success.

The one thing they will NOT do is say "We didn't gain control of the House and/or Senate because our party platform, values and beliefs are not shared by as many Americans as we previously thought," or "We didn't have as much success in these elections as we had hoped due to our inability to properly motivate our electoral base by appealing to their respective needs, wants and beliefs."

And if the Republicans were in the same position as the Democrats, and they failed to gain control of the House and/or Senate in tomorrow's elections, they would do the exact same thing.

Instead of finding reasons to explain why they "lost" an election, both parties should look at their core set of values, their agendas and platforms and figure out why they didn't "win" the election.
