Things you learn while making Rice Crispy treats (And cooking horror stories)

Like, for instance, don't try melting a banana in with the marshmallows. They end up soggy and don't come out as perfect little squares.
Also, don't try putting them in the oven. This, too, leads to non-perfect squares. In fact, it leaves your pan with a burned goo material stuck to the bottom.

Really you can only learn these things by trying. It seems.
I'm now attempting to freeze my banana-sogged rice crispy goo, hopefully to save face and make the substance somewhat solid.

I just really suck at cooking/baking stuff.
Anyone else have any cooking horror stories?

    Jake, don't freeze that concoction.

Toss it and hope you don't get tagged for harboring hazardous waste. ;)

Hell, man, it has the word "turd" in it.

    Yuck.

Well, I heard vanilla was good in it, so attempting to be original I thought I'd try putting a banana in it.
    Not a great idea.

    Oh well.
    It smelled good, at least.

My mom has this kickass gingerbread recipe. First time I tried to make gingerbread I took the ingredients, filled the pan and let it go... checked on it like10 minutes later and learned what baking powder does.
Shit was all over the oven... was good, but all over...

Vanilla is good. A banana? Not so much.

Maybe you could use a couple drops of banana extract?

What's interesting is how the banana overwhelmed the marshmallow and butter tastes. It's like I didn't even put any in there.
Extract is a great idea though. :)

No, I think it was the fact my neighbor made this absolutely to-die for banana bread so I wanted to make something similar, yet different to give back to her. I guess there en lies the problem.
You can be similar, or you can be different, but it's hard being both.
