They're games dammit!

    I did here somewhere that USA Volleyball, the governing body for the sport here in the states, is officially using the term "sets" instead of "games" now.

    I did a few volleyball matches in Beijing.

    We were told "sets" was the proper term.

    Yes, USA volleyball uses the terms sets (as does does the international game). NCAA still uses games.

    I suppose though the ranter is also upset when writers call those football parts "quarters" instead of "periods" as periods is also the "official" term.

    When I was a volleyball writer newbie, I was told that using "sets" showed my ignorance. I'm free to show my ignorance in other ways now, it appears.

    I'd rather be bludgeoned than cover volleyball. There are worse sports to cover. Doesn't mean volleyball doesn't suck.
