Working with rural football coaches has been my downfall. At first it was just remembering to bring and extra cup to spit in, but now it's affecting my speech and writing.

Text messaging and Twitter only provide proof of longstanding ignorance.

My mother considers herself pretty strong in grammar, which is largely correct. But the moment I try to correct "could care less" to "couldn't care less" - and this phrase has come up more than once over the years - chaos ensues.

I've had that battle with Dad #1 over "healthy" and "healthful."

My dad used "irregardless" a lot. I let it go. Gotta pick your battles.

I blame Microsoft Word and its (yes this is the correct one!) completely inaccurate grammar/spellcheck. OK, sometimes the spellcheck works but they must have been high when they programmed the grammar check. The correct grammar is almost always the opposite of what it suggests.

Not a grammar issue but nevertheless - opening graphic on a local newscast tonight:

    "FLOODING AND TRAGETY"

A tragetic story to be sure.

I do think that these functions improperly programmed into word processing programs have played a bigger role than either email or texting.
