I don't get that, either. And I'm looking forward to seeing this movie, too.

Hell, I'll probably forget about it a month from now.

I've been actively following movies for close to 11 years now and I've never had to wait a month between a movie like this (I.E. Mainstream) being released in a limited way vs. being released wide.

With all the Oscar-buzz for Roarke, I've got to say...this makes no sense.

You'd think they'd want to get the movie to the masses quicker. Especially with all the buzz surrounding it.

I figured that they'd start small with like 1,000 screens at first and then expand as necessary. The movie was only seen on FOUR screens last weekend. Hopefully, as the money starts rolling in they realize they should expand quicker.

I read a story on it and it said that Rourke actually blades himself in the movie.

He was having too much trouble with a prosthetic forehead so he just said screw it and got juice.

Gotta give a guy props for that.

He couldn't use blood capsules instead?

I do admire him for being willing to subject his body to that. A guy I know who used to be a semi-pro wrestler told me he came close to doing major nerve damage doing it.

You ever seen his face? He tried pro boxing for a couple years. A little bladeage ain't gonna do much to that :D

He was on the Today show the other morning and I had a really hard time watching him and his face....what a mess he's become.

And he was so gorgeous at one point. Sad.

Actually, it's the smart play, with so many major releases on Christmas Day. It's the classic small release for Oscar eligibility.
How many Oscar-worthy (or even decent) movies get released in January? By the 23rd, people will have seen all the major holiday releases, and with the word of mouth this is getting, it'll do three, four times the numbers it would've if it had gone into general release this week.
IIRC, "Million Dollar Baby" got the same treatment.

    And boxing doesn't explain it.

Plenty of guys have been hammered through longer careers and look pretty much the same as they did when they were young.
