It will need to be decided some time before Dec. 21, 2012. USA Today reports in today's editions that the world will end on that afternoon.

  2. The Ellis Redding pipeline isn't willing to confirm that yet.

The deep_background story on the coming terror should hit the board around March 2013.

Will someone please explain to me why it takes so long these days to fill an SE's position?

If the idea is that the longer they wait, the more money they save in salary while letting the assistant run the shop, and that is workable, then why hire an SE at all? If you can make it 6 months without one, why not 12? And if 12, why not two years, or three, etc.?

    Now you're learning, grasshopper.
This is exactly what many, many shops are already doing.
Did Indianapolis ever fill its position that was posted for months?
    How about Florida Today?

Purposefully or not, many places do save a bit of money by doing this with a lot of managerial positions. The ASE can often do as good of a job putting out the paper on a daily basis. Sure, you're a man down, but if production looks similar, sometimes higher ups might not notice the SE was even gone.

    10 candidates for phoners.
Cut to five, they will critique.
Cut to three for actual interviews.

    Timetable? Who knows?

Moddy, that's great info. The boots pipeline didn't get that.

Well, judging from what I've seen from "the Boots pipeline," it is Rookie League compared to the MP Major League. No offense, just the facts as you like to say.

Come on Moddy, we've broken our share of news around here. I'll let you get away with that one because you are who you are, Moddy.
