    Round 2 Matchups

    Democrats
    9. Fmr. Sen. Sam Nunn (GA) (I'm trying to avoid having a sitting Senator on the ticket in the No. 2 slot and Nunn's foreign policy credentials are solid)
    4. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (KS) (putting Richardson on the ticket would likely anger more Hillary supporters than putting a woman not named Hillary on the ticket)
    3. Gov. Ted Strickland (OH) (Ohio's more important than PA and Strickland has better credentials than Rendell)
    10. Sen. Evan Bayh (IN) (Going against my sitting Senator policy here because Bayh offers more to the ticket than Edwards)

    Republicans
    1. Gov. Tim Pawlenty (MN) (Try to distance yourself from Bush, can't have Condi on the ticket, although
fans would have fun at the rallys)
    5. Gov. Bobby Jindal (LA) (You need to get support in LA more than you need Romney's Mass. pull and Jindall's can bring more to the ticket I think)
    6. Sen. Joe Lieberman (CT) (Huckabee only appeals to the evangelical wing of the party; Lieberman can bring in some more moderates and some Dems)
    2. Gov. Charlie Crist (FL) (as a thank you for passing the law in Florida that moved the primary up, causing chaos for the Democrats)

    1. Sen. Jim Webb (VA) vs. 9. Fmr. Sen. Sam Nunn (GA): Great matchup. but Webb's a little more contemporary.
    5. Gov. Bill Richardson (NM) vs. 4. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (KS): Sebelius offers Obama women's votes (and won't have James Carville screaming "Traitor!").
    3. Gov. Ted Strickland (OH) vs. 11. Gov. Ed Rendell (PA): Rendell, by a couple of Appalachian electoral votes.
    10. Sen. Evan Bayh (IN) vs. 15. Fmr. Sen. John Edwards (NC): Bayh's a Blandy McBland, but I can't see Edwards leaving his ill wife again.
    Republicans
    1. Gov. Tim Pawlenty (MN) vs. 8. Sec. of State Condi Rice: Pawlenty doesn't need three hours in the shower to wash the Bush Administrtation stink off him.
    5. Gov. Bobby Jindal (LA) vs. 4. Fmr. Gov. Mitt Romney (MA): Close call, but never bet against killer hair like Willard M.'s.
    3. Fmr. Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR) vs. 6. Sen. Joe Lieberman (CT): Huck's raised taxes - a con no-no. Zell Lieberman never has.
    7. Sen. John Thune (SD) vs. 2. Gov. Charlie Crist (FL): Okay, is that an NYC socialite or a socialite beard that Crist spends half his time out of state seeing? Thune's the pick - a slightly smarter Dan Quayle.

    1. Sen. Jim Webb (VA) vs. 9. Fmr. Sen. Sam Nunn (GA)
    5. Gov. Bill Richardson (NM) vs. 4. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (KS)
    3. Gov. Ted Strickland (OH) vs. 11. Gov. Ed Rendell (PA) -
    10. Sen. Evan Bayh (IN) vs. 15. Fmr. Sen. John Edwards (NC)

    Republicans
    1. Gov. Tim Pawlenty (MN) vs. 8. Sec. of State Condi Rice
    5. Gov. Bobby Jindal (LA) vs. 4. Fmr. Gov. Mitt Romney (MA)
    3. Fmr. Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR) vs. 6. Sen. Joe Lieberman (CT)
    7. Sen. John Thune (SD) vs. 2. Gov. Charlie Crist (FL)

The last 2 matchups are all bad choices, I'd far prefer Romney or Jindal to any of the 4.

    1. Sen. Jim Webb (VA) The two-sitting-senators issue brought up by EStreetJoe is a good point, and one I hadn't considered. But Nunn's 70 years old, and while he may be well-liked in GA, I don't think he'll really help in the South, nor does he help Obama's claim to be a new kind of president. If Obama wins Southern states, it'll be thanks to record black turnout and heavy support from the Starbucks set...a septuagenarian retired politician doesn't seem like much help.

    5. Gov. Bill Richardson (NM) As I said in Round 1, the groundswell of support for Sebelius is a mystery to me.

    11. Gov. Ed Rendell (PA) Rendell has it all: Popularity in a purple state, Obama-compatible political philosophy, executive experience, everyman personality. He's my title pick...does being Jewish set him back, though?

    10. Sen. Evan Bayh (IN) Ugh. Bayh couldn't be more boring...Again, does anyone actually like him? As for John Edwards, as phony and despicable a politician as I can remember, doesn't seem to bring much to the table...if people were going to be excited about voting for Edwards, you'd think they would have done it already. And tapping a former one-term Senator doesn't help Obama in the much-needed "heft" department.

    Repubs
    1. Gov. Tim Pawlenty (MN) Blowout. I love Condi, but I know I'm definitely in a tiny, tiny minority there. McCain needs fewer reminders of Dubya, not more.

    4. Fmr. Gov. Mitt Romney (MA) Romney seems a more attractive candidate as time passes, though I think America's inexplicable anti-Mormon bias will hold him back. Jindal strikes me as a no-hoper in '08...sure, he's more experienced than Obama, but who isn't? More gravity, please. Plus, the shameless Democrats certainly wouldn't shy away from more despicable race-baiting "Piyush Jindal" ads.

    3. Fmr. Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR) Huckabee stinks, but there's no way McCain tabs Lieberman.

    2. Gov. Charlie Crist (FL) I'm interested in more details from the mysterious "Crist likes the ladies" post from earlier. Don't we all?

Since he's not Orthodox like Lieberman is, I don't think it will set him back. Having thrown snowballs at Santa Claus might set him back in certain parts of the country.
