After spending multiple pages discussing the possible vice-presidential selections, it is time for a Veepstakes Tournament. The seeds are based largely on buzz.

The first-round voting will close on Thursday morning, around 10 a.m. EST.

In making your selections, you should make them not on who think will be picked, but who should the candidate pick. Even if you aren't going to vote for McCain or Obama, make your pick with their best interests in mind, both as a candidate and as a potential President.

    ROUND 1 RESULTS

    Democrats
    1. Sen. Jim Webb (VA)
    9. Fmr. Sen. Sam Nunn (GA)
    5. Gov. Bill Richardson (NM) (tough, touch call, but I'm a Richardson fangirl)
    4. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (KS)
    3. Gov. Ted Strickland (OH) (another fangirl vote. Ted's first Congressional campaign is the only one I've worked on)
    6. Sen. Joe Biden (DE)
    10. Sen. Evan Bayh (IN)
    2. Sen. Hillary Clinton (NY)

    Republicans
    16. Mayor Michael Bloomberg (NY)
    9. Gov. Mark Sanford (SC) (I like Condi, a lot, but I think given the level of Bush fatigue she'd be a very poor choice)
    5. Gov. Bobby Jindal (LA)
    13. Fmr. Homeland Sec. Tom Ridge (PA)
    3. Fmr. Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR)
    6. Sen. Joe Lieberman (CT)
    10. Fmr. Rep. Rob Portman (OH) (I totally had no clue. When with the Ohio guy since Ohio seems to be more in play than the Dakotas)
    2. Gov. Charlie Crist (FL)

    Re: The Veepstakes Tournament

The seeding isn't based on who I would pick, but the "talk" surrounding the pick. Every shortlist I've seen mentions her, primarily because Obama can't dismiss it out of hand. Lynn Sweet, who might have more insight into the Obama campaign than anyone else, has Hillary in her first tier. http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2008/05/obamas_running_mate_hunt_jarre.html

Sweet does a good job of laying out the pluses that force Obama to consider her and the minuses that give him pause.

And the worst one since Iowa State, at that.

If it wasn't for Bill, who'll be unable to not stick his nose into anything and everything Obama does as President (or the Dem nominee), I'd think Hillary would be at the very top of the list.

The meaningful sentence in that lead ... isn't even a sentence.

    Good thing it's a BLOG!
