The problem is the word ISN'T used in a racial setting every single time. Unlike the confederate flag, it DOES have a duel meeting, and she wasn't even considering it in that racist, negative context. But if someone wants to bend over backwards to find something racist to beat their breasts with, so be it.

She should have just said "jump him in a back alley," but with such an interjected, off the cuff remark, this really isn't nearly a big deal compared to real incidents of racism.

She fucked up. Nobody is denying that. But how long are people going to keep beating this to death? Are we ever going to move on? And Jim Brown just weighs in on this now? Like I said, fuck Jim Brown.

  3. Used in the context of an African American -- ANY African American -- "lynch" is always racist. Got a problem, take it up with history.

Once upon a time maybe. But those battles are long over as far as my generation is concerned.

Here's what bugs me about this.

    (a) No one - not Al Sharpton, not Jim Brown, not anyone - truly believes she had a racial intent is saying this. That doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid thing to say, and it doesn't mean she shouldn't face any repercussions. But let's be honest. The people who are complaining so loudly know it was simply an awful choice of words, not some racist fantasy.

    (b) Tiger has said that he knows there was no racial intent and that Tilghman is a friend of his -- and yet people seem to think he should be calling for her head because he isn't political enough.

So, how much is enough? She's apologized, she's been suspended, and the first 98% of the public ever heard of her is in relation to this situation. Has she suffered enough for a stupid choice of words? Will we all feel better about ourselves if she loses her job?

Also, does Tiger really need to throw his friend under the bus to make everyone happy?

And why is it everyone rips Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn, and George Clooney for speaking about politics, but Tiger gets ripped for not speaking about politics? Is there an insight into politics in this country that he has gleaned from his hours on a driving range?

Has he come out and said she's a friend, he's sure it wasn't racially motivated and he thinks it was just a stupid mistake?

    He could say that.

Because Baldwin, Penn and Clooney think that because people are spending money to see their product, they are entitled to ram their opinions down our throats and call us stupid if it doesn't agree with theirs, even, in Penn's case, that means you go socialize and call a known enemy of our state a great man.
Tiger gets it. He knows which battles need fought and which don't.

To be honest, that doesn't sound like someone defending a friend. That sounds like someone who doesn't want to talk about it.

    Allen Wilson disagrees: http://www.buffalonews.com/274/story/257672.html
Those incidents may have happened a generation or two ago, but their aftereffects are obviously still being felt by at least one family.

    That's nonsensical

Baldwin, Penn and Clooney have political viewpoints which they have every right to share. I don't think they were trying to "ram" anything down anyone's throat.

Sorry, but I missed the memo where Penn socialized with an enemy of your state

    Castro? Who?

Tiger is like Sid the Kid. He's been in the spotlight since he was a child and knows how to media-speak. The both of them are Mr. Bland.
