    Not pissed off, and don't equate "Jesus H. Christ" with being pissed off, but I do hold them to higher standards which is probably a mistake. These are all writers I read, follow and maybe even have an affinity for so you watch yesterday's overwrought performance art and think that maybe it's beneath them. That's what comes with celebrity.

    I can't speak to the "envious" thing because envious is the last thing I am IRT the crowd you mentioned. Talent, hard work and ambition landed them where they are today and I don't even pretend to think I can write like they do.

    What I find curious is how Maslin gets shredded all day yet the shredders say squat about the second reviewer, who pretty much said the same thing only a few tones nicer. Two NYT reviews give it less-than-glowing reviews? Maybe it's not such a great book.

    Lastly, who cares if there's a thread about this? Your lust in defending the aforementioned seems equally courageous. But humans tend to defend themselves quite vigorously.
