1986 Giants, kind of the companion piece to the '86 Mets.
2006 and 2009 Saints - The first because of all the post-Katrina stuff, the second because it's something no one in Louisiana ever expected to see.
2003 Cubs - All the heartbreak and misery of the 2003 Red Sox, but without the happy ending

I'm glad no one said the 75 or 76 Reds. Fuck you Joe Morgan.

The 77 - 78 Yankees were iconic teams. And the 98 Yankees too.

    2007 Patriots.

I beg to differ. The Big Red Machine was about as iconic as it gets. IMO, the '76 Reds were one of the 30 greatest teams to ever take the field. Didn't like 'em, to the point where the '76 World Series was the only one I can remember that I did not watch as much as a single inning (I hate the Yankees with a white-hot passion).

Actually the '76 Reds were quite iconic to me because that was the year I started following baseball and although I lived in SoCal, I was a big fan of Johnny Bench and Pete Rose.

This may be a little out of the box, but I'm gonna mention the '93 Phillies. A year where a decent team just came together and everything seemed to go right until Joe Carter hit his home run. And oh what a cast of characters. I'd say they're one of the most memorable World Series runners-up of my time as a baseball fan.

I hate the Flyers, but most any sports fan knows all about the Broad Street Bullies.

How about the '72-'74 A's? They beat the Big Red Machine.

The early '90s Cowboys and, conversely, the early '90s Bills.

I agree. Just glad they don't get mentioned.
