I don't think anyone said he was astute about baseball; just that he had a big checkbook and no reservations about aggressively investing in the team. Stick Michael was the best baseball talent evaluator they had and he did his best work when George was suspended.

Re: Murcer, I was surprised, too. They did have a moment of silence for him before the National Anthem at the Futures Game on Sunday and, before it happens, no, I'm not suggesting the two games are equal in stature or that a tribute at the Futures Game would suffice.

    No coincidence.

The only owners in the Hall: Tom Yawkey (Red Sox), Charlie Comiskey (White Sox), Clark Griffith (Senators), Bill Veeck (Indians, Browns, White Sox), Walter O'Malley (Dodgers), Barney Dreyfuss (Pirates)

Actually, that was his daughter. His wife never appears. In fact, I can't ever remember seeing her, not once.

    O'Malley in the Hall.

    Charming.

A guess a certain kind of vision counts.

    Steinbrenner?

He did make a STUPENDOUS buy.

    Should that get him in?

    Bring on the felons.

Pulling the balls out of the interoffice manila envelope was a nice touch.

So you can make the argument that they really should have been more successful than they were, given his ability and willingness to outspend everyone else.

Been making that argument for many, many years.

Griffith got in because of his enormous overall contribution to the game in multiple roles.

If he had to rely on his ownership stint to get in? No chance.

It's an absolute crime Comiskey is in the Hall.

It's a wonder ol' Will is in -- but I'm delighted Veeck made it.

He sure liked money -- but he hid it, well. Better than most.
