For the purposes of this thread, we're talking old-school Sports Reporters. I tried watching this morning, and ugh.

I loved both shows, but I know each had its defenders.

Good Lord. This ought to be the biggest blowout in history. Sports Writers on TV was awesome.

Cigar smoke, old men talking shit. Ben Bentley was great, because he didn't take no mess. Great stuff.

But it was kind of a Midwest thing. I'm not even sure if it was broadcast widely nationwide. Was it?

On one show it was obvious that the guys actually liked each other. That made a huge difference.

It was on in AZ. I think WGN carried it.

    We got it in NY.

    And it was pure awesomeness.

When Rick Telander filled the role of the young, "hip" guy.

Put the 4 SWOT guys around that table today (even though all of them are not still with us), and it remains a 100 times better show than TSR could ever hope to be.
  10. This thread should be immediately shut down. Loved me some SWOT, have no use for the clowns they trot out on TSR.

Sports Reporters never recovered from when Michael Kay started to show up regularly.

I think the predecessor of Fox Sports, Home Sports Entertainment if I recall correctly, carried it in the deep south.

Not sure if Fox kept it once it became part of the Fox Sports Network.
