Who gives a shit? Coulda, woulda and shoulda aren't in the dictionary. The south lost. Get over it. Keep it moving. There's a lot more important things to worry about.

They were not worth a shit in the second half once the QB's top receiver went down.

Well it's not like the best referees want to work in Mobile, Alabama on Christmas Day.

Or if they'd kept their eye on the ball, rather than chanting "SEC! SEC! SEC!" after a minor victory.

Apparently the northern states in the 1800s hadn't figured that out yet.

Exactly. That's what the Confederate States did and, I suspect, will do again.

Very true. That's why the lost plans that fell into Union hands prior to Antietam were so important.

Despite their opposition to slavery, Great Britain in the late summer of 1862 was leaning toward recognizing the Confederacy, primarily to keep the flow of Southern cotton to English textile mills going. And they probably would have persuaded France to do likewise, in exchange for Southern compliance with their adventure into Mexico.

When the Union stopped Lee at that moment, the UK chose not to support the South, and other European nations followed their lead.

Also, "winning the war" meant two very different things to each side. For the North, winning meant subjugating the South and restoring the Union. For the South, it was simply getting Lincoln to the peace table and negotiating either their survival as an independent nation or the return of Southern states to the Union on their terms, i.e. with slavery intact and allowed to spread.

Where in the fuck are they going? As I posted earlier, it was a bad idea in 1861 and doesn't look like a good one in 2013.
