The songs you keep playing

I don't own an iPod, but I may have set some sort of record last Sunday on a three-hour drive home from a wedding.

Long story short (not really), drove home after 1 1/2 hours of sleep. Found a mellow CD I burned with a bunch of love songs, easy listening, etc.

The maid of honor and I have had *feelings* for each other for a couple of years, but nothing ever happened because we live so far apart and she's had a longtime boyfriend. Now they're engaged, but he wasn't there all weekend. Something happened, although I didn't mean to be the bad guy and knowing the circumstances, I don't think I am.

Anyways, back to the CD. Get to song 10. "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak. I've never really liked the song or ever listened to it the whole way through. Never really paid attention to the lyrics. Skipped back to it after the first time. And again. And again. And again. I swear to God, I listened to it for 2 1/2 hours straight. Almost the whole way home.

No lyrics to any song have ever fit my life before "Wicked Game" did last Sunday. In summary, if I were listening to it on an iPod, "Wicked Game" would be number one right now. Probably, by a lot, although Rick Ross' "Hustlin" without Jeezy and Jay-Z would be second.

I think "Over My Head (Cable Car)" is going to sneak in as the top radio airplay song for this year, just like Lifehouse's "Hanging by a Moment" did a few years back. It's catchy, people like it, they don't tend to cringe like when James Blunt comes on, but they don't realize how much they like it and how much it gets played.

Ditto, Cadet. Part of me wants to hate "Over My Head (Cable Car)," but I can't. It's just too damn catchy.
