This one needed the referee that US-England had yesterday. Short of gushing blood or compound fractures, he made clear that the attempts to win acting awards weren't going anywhere with him.

Could Argentina wind up being the biggest disappointment of this WC?

Not now. Thank you, Lionel Messi.

(Have zero use for Mexico. Take El Tri down, Argentina.)

Messi hasn’t heard his name shouted like that since the night before he left for the World Cup

This game has been an advertisement against soccer. Hopefully it has to open up now.

That ... and the anti-gay slurs ... and throwing tons of garbage at U.S. players during their matches ... and throwing bags of urine and bags of blood at U.S. players at Azteca.

Yeah ... not a Mexico fan.

Yeah. But many of the Latin America sides in CONCACAF and most of CONMEBOL are known for this crap. So is Italy, which didn't earn a berth this time around.

Too many of them flop around worse than fish already put in the cooler.

So we are a week into the tournament, and CONCACAF hasn't won a game yet.
