Meanwhile, one of Guatemala or the Dominican Republic will be playing at the Olympics in 2024. These certainly are interesting times.

Those were three nice goals by the Baby Nats tonight.

And they qualified for the Olympics!

An impressive display of both persistence and ball-watching.

A goal that reminds me of my early days playing FIFA, when every set piece and cross was an excuse to attempt a bicycle kick.

In Qatar there is no beer
That’s why we drink it here
While for our team we cheer
Our friends will be drinking all our beer.

In Qatar there is no pork
    To put upon our forks
While we all look like dorks
Our friends will be eating all our pork.

In Qatar there are no gays
    Or so the emir says
    While we watch soccer plays
Our friends will be drinking with the gays

Not exactly surprising. The only place you can legally drink in Qatar is in bars connected to international hotels. When I was there for the intercontinental playoffs, the only beverages sold in the stadium were coffee, karak, and Coke products (the latter all 15 riyals, or $4).

Plus, the "inside stadiums" qualifier suggests there will be places people can drink outside the stadium. Budweiser is still a World Cup sponsor, after all, and I don't think they'd be OK with sitting out the tournament after forking over sponsor money.

All of the Europeans detest the fact that Bud is the only option in the stadiums.

Coke and not Pepsi? Very surprising.
