The CONCACAF semifinal groups should be set within a few hours. Group B turned out as expected -- Mexico, Canada, Jamaica and Honduras. Much as I'll be pulling for Team Canuckistan Fighting, it doesn't look good.

Group A is almost done. The U.S. beat Barbados 1-0 with a makeshift lineup, Guatemala was already through and Cuba managed not to royally screw things up at home against Antigua and Barbuda. Bermuda is down 1-0 at home against T&T, but even that will put it through on road goals. Still, Bermuda had better score if it doesn't want any stoppage-time PKs to decide things.

Suriname and Costa Rica are through in Group C. Panama-El Salvador and Netherlands Antilles-Haiti have yet to kick off.

Top two advance out of each of these for the final six, right? I hope Canada continues their growth they showed at the Gold Cup last year.

Yup. Group A is complete after T&T won 2-0 in Bermuda (thanks to Stern Fscking John). Haiti won 1-0 on the road, and Panama looks good for the group phase with a 1-0 halftime lead (2-0 agg.).

Panama just conceded three goals in the final 20 minutes to get knocked out 3-1 by El Salvador. Wow. The spanish announcer is going bat shit. A 2-1 loss would have put Panama through. And never mind those two red cards they somehow picked up on the road.

As a USMNT fanatic who has traveled to an away game at Panama, this result makes me a little sad.

Always makes me think, what the hell, when I see something like this roll across the wire from African World Cup Qualifying.

    Group Three
Angola vs. Uganda, ppd., no officials

Apparently their flight was late. Because it totally makes sense to fly in the officials day of or day before.

I just thought I would share this. He is quite the dead ball specialist.

As to the rest, well, I guess we shall see how the qualifying goes this summer. I will definitely be in DC and I'll try to get to Chicago. The rest of the trips will need to wait until next year.

Three bits of news: Carlos Bocanegra's decided to go to France, and will play for Rennes next season. They just missed out on a UEFA Cup place last season, and part of their problem appeared to be a lack of goals, only 47 in 28 games.

And Steve McClaran has found a new job, in Holland, at FC Twente. That'll be fun, seeing them flame out of the first round of the Champions League.

Oh, and Marcello Lippi has replaced Donadoni at Italian manager, after Donadoni's contract wasn't extended.

Rennes is in the third (and final) round of the Intertoto Cup. They'll play one of FC MIKA (Armenia), FC Tiraspol (Moldova) or SC Tavriya Simferopol (Ukraine). If they win that, they go through to the second UEFA Cup qualifying round.

Can they get Bocanegra registered in time to allow him to play?
