They have two. Posada doesn't catch anymore. He's a DH.

Thing is, he hasn't really been the catcher that much -- if at all -- this season. He's been the DH with Martin and Cervelli behind the plate.

A "designated hitter" who cannot "hit" very quickly becomes a "former player."

Which recent World Series champion won the title more in spite of its manager? Girardi's '09 Yankees or Bob Brenly's '01 Diamondbacks?

He hasn't caught at all this year, and there's no plan for him to.

This is where a guy like Torre would have stepped in a couple hours before game time, and ended the circus.

It never would have even become an issue. Torre was borderline terrible as a game manager, but his people skills (for everyone this side of A-Rod and Gary Sheffield) were outstanding. He would have had Posada batting ninth and feeling OK about it.

The real Clueless Joe--always the smartest guy in the room, despite all the evidence to the contrary--brings absolutely nothing to the table. Zero people skills, zero managerial acumen. Of all the bad contracts the Yankees have awarded the last few years, the worst were the ones to Girardi.

Yep, Me thought a designated hitter was supposed to hit -- and do nothing else. Never liked the rule.

The Yankees not only have to pay him (and apparently placate him), they have to pay somebody else to go out and play in the field. At least a carcass like Russell Branyan can go out and play three different positions if need be, and put on a glove once or twice a week.

Maybe Cashman's trying to use this as an excuse to put Posada on the restricted list so they can call up Montero?

  11. Except for the manager part, yes, it could. It could have been happening to the team the Yankees were playing tonight.

Don't know if it's the actual cover or not but saw a screen shot of, i think, the Post and the headline was "Posada Adventure"

And the way he's swung the bat you could make the argument that the only reason Posada's hitting 9th is because they can't hit him 10th.
