Grantland's Brian Phillips on sumo wrestling and Mishima.

I'll post thoughts in a day or two. Would love to read other takes on it.

Read more like Brian Phillips on Brian Phillips' trip to Japan.

I like Brian Phillips' writing a lot. Whether it's Twitter or longform, he's always worth reading.

This one reads like a terrific setup to something that never comes. I know he's doing it as an homage to the Japanese literary style he talks about in the piece, but the lack of resolution with Koga, the lack of resolution with his own mental state, and the way the sumo story just peters out (while he watches on TV) just made this incredibly frustrating to read, and too cute by half.
