The "Said vs. Says" debate

    I don't care much either way...we're having a debate at our paper about which we prefer. "Said" has been the rule for years, but we'll do "says" for feature stories on occasion.

    I'm guessing your editor had such an abrupt response because 1) it's a basic rule at your shop, 2) it can be a tedious fix if he/she is really concerned with catching it or 3) your editor was having a bad day. :)
