The Proposed 18 Game NFL Schedule

    - Didn't the USFL have an 18-game schedule? Would be nice to hear from those who played in that league.
    - Definitely could see this shortening the careers of RBs, what with them getting 40-50 more carries per season.
    - NFL would probably need to come up with some sort of disabled list like baseball has, so a guy hurt in Week 1 isn't out for the entire season if he can get back in 6 weeks.

Do you know who should be really pissed if the NFL rosters are expanded 15 or 20 percent?

The CFL and the Arena leagues.

Where will these players be coming from? Where do the last five guys cut at training camp end up? The CFL and AFL.

Now those leagues will have lesser players and will be giving the fans a lesser product.

As someone who's watched both leagues from the sidelines, I can tell you Rick Stain is half right. CFL players are no slower than their NFL brethren, but they are half the size.

NFL DBs are linebackers here, many NFL linerbackers would be on the D-line.

They hit hard, but there is no comparison to the sheer force of much-bigger men. Going to 18 in the NFL is crazy.

Raise your hand if you think the NFL gives a fuck about the UFL, the CFL, the Area League or any other league.

IR is already a joke in the NFL. Half the guys on IR are healthy enough to play this Sunday.

Just what every professional sports league needs.

    MORE regular-season games.

They definitely use it to stash players. Always have. The Steelers are probably going to do that with Dennis Dixon, though he should be ready to play in another month. But if they need a roster spot for a defensive lineman Sunday, Dixon will most likely go on IR to create room. If not, he will most likely go on when Roethlisberger returns.

I really do like the idea of adding a disabled list like MLB has, perhaps a four-week DL and an eight-week DL, with limited spots on each.

    Yay! Let's play games in 103-degree heat in August . . .

. . . and then decide who goes to the Super Bowl in 4-degree weather in late January because, after all, "that's how football was meant to be played!!"

The Onion does a good job of covering the Area League.
