He thoroughly deserves this firing (hi macho bullshitters!!!), but he's gonna get paaaaaaaid a few years down the road, after everyone has forgotten all about this.

Urban Meyer's flip flop could spawn only one thread.

Funny (and true) notes from http://www.sbnation.com/2009/12/30/1225603/mike-leach-texas-tech-fired-cause-terms-effects:

And what for Leach? Television, if anyone has a sense of humor and some daring in the sports programming department. Future coaching spots are inevitable, though no obvious openings beckon thanks to hiring season being all but over.

Shouldn’t adults have been able to work this out? Yes, but that’s if there were any adults involved in this.

DMN goes all FOIA on Texas Tech and gets some interesting e-mails ... http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/img/12-09/1231newleach.pdf

This will make for good Court TV complete with Cat Scans and video of Tech practice.

    *taking a cyber-bow* .. :D

I don't suppose he's "lovin' every minute of it" at the moment, either ...

These e-mails make it sound like the report on ESPN that Leach was due $800,000 if he was coach tomorrow false. Apparently, that was the Leach camps' claim regarding a 'vested' portion of a $1 million completion bonus.

Leach felt he earned $200,000 for each year he completed, while the administration said nuh-uh. You get the million when you COMPLETE your contract.

Unfortunately, some school will take a chance on him at some point. But let's be honest here: The guy's certainly no Pop Warner.

Still can't figure if he's the smartest or the stupidest guy ever.

If he's not careful, nobody's going to want to take a chance on him, regardless of how great he was at Tech.

Lawyer up enough and folks (at least the ones at the schools you'd want to coach at) will always find another guy to hire.

  12. This contract parsing should be fun. Rich Rodriguez's contract was actually the centerpiece of one of my law school final exams a couple weeks ago, with the professor capitalizing on some ambiguities. Will be interesting to see some of the vagaries in one of these play out in a real situation, especially since Leach is/was a lawyer himself.
