Actually I thinkthat's the most appropriate penalty - it wipes Coach Hush from the record books. Well not exactly. Fourteen years of winless seasons gives him a new mark....and a reason they took down that statue: Loser.

Will they stay or will they go? The BOT may feel they are better served leaving the BIG. They could then work to become The Beast of the East, again. It would not shock me if they went that way. Paterno was the driving force behind then entering the BIG. He's gone so there may be a change in attitude.

I said "if I was." Not that anyone else should. I just think it's good that they offered an option for someone who may love the school but be disillusioned by the program.

Question: Is that $60M going into the NCAA coffers, or will it go into some sort of fund to help the victims, or to groups dealing with the problem?

I'm not a fan of vacating victories either, but FNF is spot-on in this case.

As for the NCAA, Forde had it right on Yahoo! yesterday: Emmert has seized Goodell-like powers with this decision. Had they gone through the normal NCAA processes, well ... just look how long it took them to penalize USC.

Not in the record books. Eddie Robinson, welcome back to the D1 penthouse.

Playing other Eastern powers like San Diego State and Boise.

As harsh as the penalties seem, I am not certain that they were harsh enough.

Nor do I know what would have been appropriate.

I like the fine and the purpose of the fine.

The vacating of wins hits the thing that Paterno protected the most, the reputation of the program and his legacy.

None of this however will make the children whole again and most of the people being punished here had nothing to do with the problems at Penn State. That is the sad thing.

It's going directly toward programs to help prevent child sexual abuse.

And not towards programs on campus.

There's a lick of sense in the NCAA then ... who'd thunk it?

So what are the institutional control measures they're talking about now? Two-person escorts for minors across football team property? Video cameras in the showers, hooked up to the city police station?

Color me among the minority if you will, but I don't really see this is a situation where the NCAA sanctions are warranted or necessary. The criminal charges and the scandal can stand on their own and will forever place a shadow on Paterno's accomplishments and those of Penn State.

They won the football games, they didn't cheat, they should keep the wins - they're going to be tarnished anyway. As for the rest of the sanctions, why not try to allow the school to build something positive in the wake of all this... God knows they need something to believe in.
