Don't be such a disingenuous fuckstick all the days of your life. You know that was an op-ed piece, not an editorial or a news story -- so "the New York Times" never said the war was winnable. (If Jeff Jacoby writes an op-ed endorsing, say, Ron Paul, does that mean "the Boston Globe endorses" Ron Paul?) And the two guys who wrote that op-ed have backtracked anyway.

  2. Not only that but the "uptick" in the president's numbers is negligable. The point of this post is that"Patraeus" is saying nothing at all in a report that is being written by the political hacks inside the WH, and...
    Oh to hell with it.

  3. Yeah, from 28 percent to 30 percent. Wow!!!

The White House is writing his report. That's a fact which flies in the face of him being objective.

That report has been called into question because the reporters went on a guided tour sponsored by the military. They had no way to verify the facts/information they were given.

Also, the people that wrote that report were not critics of the war. They were actually in favor of war and wrote in favor of the surge.

Provide a link to a story from the AP that says the war is winnable.

Provide a link to Gen. Patraeus saying the war is winnable.

    Thank you.

The longer you cling to the illusion that the surge is the be-all and end-all benchmark of success, the longer you'll demonstrate a real lack of true knowledge of the situation. Talk about a guy sitting at home in his boxers.

And I'll have you know I do NOT wear boxers. ::)

There are so many things wrong with this, I'm not even going to begin to explain it all.

Surely, Henry, you can do better.

  8. From a story about the bombings today in northern Iraq, in which more than 300 have been verified killed.

As Alley mentioned, the surge is just one small part of the overall Iraq war.

The massive "surge" of U.S. and Iraqi troops in and around Baghdad has made the Iraqi capital safer than before from such bombings — but terrorist groups have stepped up attacks elsewhere. There have been a number of attacks in northern Iraq, which had enjoyed a long spell of peace before the start of the "surge."

Tuesday's bombings were also a reminder that even successful U.S. military operations can have a short shelf life — a sobering thought for Bush Administration officials and independent analysts who have recently been talking up the successes of the "surge."

Now, the Bushies want this vaunted progress report made in the privacy of a briefing.
